Pasadena Chapter History: 1974 - 2008
1974 – Pasadena Chapter again receives award at California Division meeting in May for Membership Retention for the highest percentage of retention of members for 1973/74 year.
1977 – California Division Meeting is sponsored by the Pasadena Chapter. Two chapter members received 25-year membership pins during National Secretaries Week. The Chapter newsletter, the Prose Parade, begins publication as a quarterly communication tool. A $2,000 donation is made to the Home Trust Fund by an anonymous Pasadena Chapter Member in honor of Connie McCauley, First International NSA President from California.
1978 – Pasadena Chapter receives the Membership Retention Award from California Division for the third time for the greatest percentage of members retained. In July, the Chapter received the Colonel Roane Waring Award from the Retirement Center for making the largest monetary contribution to the Home Trust Fund.
1980 – Pasadena Chapter sponsors a new FSA Chapter at Pasadena City College in April. During this 32nd year, 20% of Pasadena Chapter members have achieved the CPS rating. Once again, the chapter is presented with the California Division Membership Retention Award. This is the first year the Prose Parade is entered in the Division’s newsletter contest.
May 1981 – The Chapter receives the Joe Maes Knoerr Award at the California Division Annual Meeting for having the greatest percentage of membership in attendance. Other awards received at the Annual Meeting were for Outstanding Chapter Newsletter and Membership Retention.
March 1983 – Chapter members vote to combine the business and dinner meetings and meet only one a month instead of twice. Dinner cost is $8.25.
1991 – Five Chapter members attain the CPS rating. The chapter participates in a community service project to help the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena.
1992 – In May, the Chapter receives two CPS Awards for the most members sitting for the CPS Exam and the Most Achieving the CPS rating.
1993 – In April, the Chapter hosted its first panel discussion on professional secretaries Day. Membership increases by 32% for the 1993/94 year.
1995 – The companies of two chapter members, Ameron and Woodbury University, donate a set of CPS Study Guides.
1996 – The Chapter sponsored two students to attend the CSI/FSA Conference in honor of Salute to Students Month in March. On Professional Secretaries Day, we sponsored our first CSI Chapter at Watterson College. At the California Division Annual Meeting in May, we received a Certificate o Achievement for the greatest numerical increase in membership; a Certificate of Recognition for sponsorship a CSI Students Chapter and funding a scholarship program; and the STARs Plus Award as a STAR Chapter. In June, the Chapter became the first in the California Division to host its own web site. In July, we introduced the first ever Pasadena Chapter pin. Also in July, Chapter President, Donna Baker CPS received the Distinguished Chapter President Award at International Convention in Des Moines, Iowa. In October, joined with the Antelope Valley, L.A. Metropolis, Pomona, and Satellite Chapters at the first California Division LAN Meeting.
1997 – The Chapter applied for the 1997 PSI/Avery Dennison Chapter Achievement Award for the first time. In March, Pasadena Chapter was the host of the CPS Forum South, completed and approved a comprehensive Chapter Strategic Plan. At the California Division Annual Meeting, the chapter was presented Certificates of Achievement for the greatest number of members sitting for the CPS Exam and achieving the CPS rating; and the greatest numerical increase and percentage increase in membership. Also received the STARs Plus Award as a STAR Chapter for the second year in a row. At the International Convention in Buffalo, New York in July, Chapter President, Donna Baker CPS, was presented with the Distinguished Chapter President award for the second consecutive year.
1998 - 2008 – During the last ten years the Pasadena Chapter focused on providing educational programs that were relevant in the marketplace such as project management, communication, leadership and negotiation skills, career planning, life-work balance, disaster preparedness, writing skills and investments. In addition, we offered opportunities to enhance the skills of our members through the CPS/CAP certification and active participation in Chapter committees.
