How soon will I be notified, after the exams, if I have passed?
Performance Reports are mailed from Kansas City, Missouri approximately 45 days after the administration of the exam.
What does the Performance Report tell me?
Performance Reports show a “Pass” or “Need,” along with a “Percentile Ranking.” The percentile ranking tells you how you did in comparison to other candidates taking the same part(s).
How is the passing score set?
The pass/fail cut-score is determined using a norm-referenced method.
What is the norm-referenced method?
This is a method where candidates’ performance is measured based on performance relative to the average performer, not against a predetermined standard or set passing score. Norm-referenced scoring is used to ensure stability of score interpretation over time.
Who determines what cut-score will be used for the CPS and CAP exams?
The Educators on the Institute for Certification, using psychometric data from the current exam and psychometric history, set the cut-score after each CPS and CAP exam administration. A psychometric consultant is included in this process.
What do I receive if I have passed all parts?
A certificate, dated for five years, and pin are received after meeting all requirements and passing all examination parts.
Why is the certificate dated for five years?
CPS and CAP holders are required to recertify every five years to keep their certification active.
How is recertification achieved?
Recertification is achieved by earning 90 points in the categories of education and experience, leadership, and an elective category. Complete details on recertification can be found by clicking here.
Is it possible to attain college credit after passing the CPS or CAP exams?
